At The People, we understand that raising children is a rewarding yet challenging journey. We believe that strong family relationships are the foundation for a happy and healthy upbringing, and that takes planning. That’s why we are thrilled to announce our collaboration with the Race Equality Foundation to bring you a group-based parenting programme designed to support parents from all backgrounds in building stronger strategies to connect with their children.

This is a popular and supportive group-based parenting programme for anyone raising children. We welcome all men who are parents and carers who would like information and new skills to feel empowered in making parenting decisions through SFSC: Stronger Relationships equips you with the strategies and tools essential for healthy parenting relationships. They are here to help you recognise and respond to the challenges of being a father and the risks and concerns facing our children. Whether you want to help your child do well at school, understand better the dangers of the online world, avoid getting in with the ‘wrong crowd’, or just feel more confident and less anxious: SFSC can provide you with strategies to help you feel equipped as a parent and help you to raise happy children and keep them safe.

Who Can Benefit from This Programme?

Parenting is a complex experience, and we welcome all men raising children to join the programme. Whether you have a baby, toddler, teenager, or young person, this is here to help you develop the necessary skills to engage with your child effectively. The course runs for three hours a week for 12 weeks. Some groups provide free childcare and refreshments. There is also an introductory session where you can find out more. Just come along, bring a friend or co-parent if you prefer and see if it’s for you. Register Here! Recognising and Responding to Challenges:

Raising children comes with its unique set of challenges, and our programme is designed to help you recognise and respond to them. From parenting struggles to concerns about your child’s well-being, we are here to guide you through it all.

Research-Backed Strategies:

Learn research-backed strategies for identifying and reducing conflicts within your family home. We offer practical methods and techniques to help you manage anger, instil discipline, and better understand your child’s development.

Is this course for me ? 

We are looking for Black, Asian, and minority ethnic fathers, stepfathers, grandparents, uncles, and any male who is caring for children who are living with them or not. This can be fathers who are thinking about going to court, or who are in or have been through this process. It’s completely FREE and will help build a comprehensive understanding of co-parenting and how to seek the best outcomes for you and your family. These programmes are aimed at co-parents living together and those living apart, those caring for children alone with the help of family/friend carers, and those living in extended families and step-families.

Programme Details

The 13-session programme will kick off in February 2024. These face-to-face sessions are scheduled to be held once a week, every Wednesday. Each session will last for 3 hours, ensuring that you receive comprehensive guidance and support.

Time: From 18:30 PM – 21:30 PM
No session during half-terms

Online Programme

The online course is a great complement to the in-person course and is available to those who can’t enrol but still play a significant role. It is slightly different as it focuses on conflict and gives parents tools to improve their communication skills. 

  • The online course is open all carers and not just fathers 
  • 6 online sessions which include powerful new videos from parents
  • 2 one-hour slots led by one of the SFSC team, daily for 6 weeks
  • Receive a digital parent manual
  • Ideal for parents/carers who are struggling with their co-parents

Certification:

Upon completion of the programme, you will receive a certificate, recognising your dedication to enhancing your parent-child relationship and family dynamics. This includes a certificate and a parent manual.
