On April 22, 2022, DreamWorks Animation will be bringing a new action-packed comedy, The Bad Guys to the big screen. The story is based on the New York Times best-selling Scholastic book series by Aaron Blabey. A highly-skilled criminal crew of animal outlaws attempts their most challenging con yet, becoming model citizens.
The Bad Guys crew are made up of five infamous friends: the dashing pickpocket, Mr. Wolf played by Academy Award winner, Sam Rockwell, seen-it-all safecracker, Mr. Snake played by Marc Maron, chill master-of-disguise, Mr. Shark played by Craig Robinson of the Hot Tub Time Machine franchise, short-fused “muscle”, Mr. Piranha, played by Anthony Ramos who starred in The Heights and last but not least, sharp-tongued expert hacker, Ms. Tarantula, aka “Webs” played by Awkwafina who starred in Crazy Rich Asians.
After years of countless heists and being the world’s most-wanted villains, the crew is finally caught and brokers a deal with the authorities that they have no intention of keeping. To save his crew, and himself, from going to prison, The Bad Guys will have to reform and go good instead.
The crew is taken under the wing of Professor Marmalade played by Richard Ayoade of Paddington 2, who guides and mentors the crew to become model citizens. The Bad Guys set out to fool the world that they’ve been reformed, but along the way, Mr. Wolf begins to suspect that sincerely doing good may give him what he’s always secretly longed for all along; acceptance. So when a new villain threatens the city, can Mr. Wolf persuade the rest of the crew to become The Good Guys instead?
The film co-stars Zazie Beetz who starred in the Joker, Lilly Singh, YouTube star turned late-night talk show host, and Emmy winner Alex Borstein who starred in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. The Bad Guys is directed by Pierre Perifel who is making his feature directing debut. Pierre Perifel was previously known for his animation of beloved The Kung Fu Panda films. The animated film is produced by Damon Ross, who was the development executive for Trolls and The Boss Baby, and co-producer of Nacho Libre, along with Rebecca Huntley who also known for her work on The Boss Baby, and executive producers Aaron Blabey, Etan Cohen, and Patrick Hughes.
